BETWEEN BREADS, MUMBAI
This place has been on my list for a long long time and every time we made plans to try this place out, for various reasons the plan would get dropped and we would end up some where else entirely. This has happened with different people I have been heading out with so much so that I had given up saying probably its not meant for me. Until. Until, one fine day when I was supposed to go some place else, that the group I was with wanted to have burgers and fries and not from Mc Donalds. To all the people who love Mc Donalds, no offence to you. I visit Mc D, as its propularly know, quite often too but you have got to admit it has the same difference that eating Shawarma from a local roadside counter and having from Carter Road or Piccadilly. Yes, if you are presently in the Gulf, and are having Shawarma from the local, there is nothing quite like it!! :D
Okay, enough about Shawarmas, lets get back to the burgers! So that's how I finally landed up at Between the Breads. Some times its beneficial knowing good restaurants around after all! Talking about the place, I think its some where inspired from Poptates. No, not the Popular Chain of restaurant - Pop Tates but the famous Pop Tates from the Archie Comics. If you are a Jughead fan, like me, you would know. If not, you are never too old to pick up an Archie Comic or drop it into this place and you can read some for free as they are laid down at every table. Jug Heads has an obsessions with burgers hot dogs and this place is known for that. So I feel if Pop Tates was real, this is how it probably would be designed, only with more space. The only down side to the place is probably that it is too small and can hardly seat 4-5 groups at one time. The place has only bar stools with shelf like tables as an extension from the walls, which is good utilization of space or rather to save space but it still feels a little cramped up. So Yes, I wish it was a little bit more spacious but I guess that will happen as the place gain more popularity and success. It already is! You would know if you are a foodie like me!
This place serves beef burgers! Now, that is its specialty. Why? Because it is next to impossible finding beef burgers in India. You get them alright but only at particular places, and at quite a good price. No doubt they are good and worth the price being paid but whatever happened to the luxury of finding them in Mc Donalds and Burger King. A cheaper but never the less tasty option. Not always do I want to pay an exorbitant amount of Rs 500 for burger. Having said all this I did not have a beef burger on the day. :P Beef tends to be heavy you see, and having just ate even if it was light, just a while ago, I felt it best to avoid beef on the day. But I will definitely be going back for it the next time round. Now that I have developed all the more a taste for it.
Since we were 4 people, 4 different burgers were ordered for - Chili Lime Pesto Chicken Burger which is spicy and chili, so if you like your burger to be spicy as such, then this is a great option. Then there is the breakfast burger which I had ordered, which consists of Burger, poached egg, bacon, onions etc, basically a western breakfast stuffed in a burger. I had it minus the bacon since I don't eat pork meat. My sister went for the Beef Burger because burgers are supposed to be beef and I have got to say it is sooooo worth it that I regretted not ordering it and lastly the Hot Dog. This friend of mine ordered the Hot Dog thinking it will not be too heavy as she wanted to eat light. To her disappointment (Not really!), it was as heavy as the burgers. The Beef Burger and the Hot Dog is what I will be trying out next at the place. I have an eternal love for Sausages, my near and dear ones will tell you just about how much since every time I stay over or have breakfast at even their places, my first request is to kindly keep Sausages!! :P We even ordered for some cheesy mushroom fries on the side as I had heard quite a lot about it and well I have got to say what ever I had heard still did not do justice. They are that GOOD! I officially declare that these were the best fries I have had. I have had different varieties fries before including poutine. But this has to be the best of them all. The quantity though I wish was a little on the heavier side as that was the only complaint on the table and I think it is not wrong of us to do so as if they can give heavy burgers at prices like these, why so stingy with the sides??!! Oh, before it slips my mind, Do not, I repeat Do not order for the Pink Lemonade. It was as bad as the fries were good. Next time I will stick to the soft drinks as the rest of the people on my table did.
Be it for Lunch, Brunch or Dinner, if you are craving some real burgers, this is your STOP! and the bonus is that it will not burn a hole in your pocket!
