CHOCOLATERIA SAN CHURRO, MUMBAI
It had been a while since I had tried out a new place that specializes in desserts and after my Sister's vacation and the many pics she posted of them, I had cravings for some good dessert too, although, I don't particularly have a sweet tooth. My sister on the contrary has a sweet tooth the size of an elephant's. No kidding. Her dessert is equivalent to Main Course and her main course is what we generally have for dessert.
San Churro's was on my list for a long time but due to one reason or other, I would always land up some where else, mostly because the company I had was more interested in having salt than sugar. Hence, in the end I realized the best person to take with me here would be both my sisters, one I consider my own (unfortunately) and the other my cousin, who is constantly on a diet, the definition of which is having chocolate at every 2 hour interval. :P
So on a relaxed Sunday evening we headed here after a tiring but satisfactory shopping expedition at Bandra because Bandra has it all. They have an outlet in Andheri as well, but I prefer Bandra as its much easier traveling and mainly because I refuse to use public transport (Buses/Trains) on a Sunday. I do that enough during the week.
I don't know if it is just me, but It gave me the feeling of Christmas Day in London. Why London?do not ask me. I felt like I had entered a huge mansion, the kind that the Beast lives in the animated movie - Beauty & the Beast. If you have not seen it, what did your childhood consist of???!!! You have got to watch Beauty & the Beast. Its a classic after all! This place reminded me of that. Only in that it is dark corridors where you are not to set foot, here it seemed cozy. All it needed was a Fire-place where you could sit by and enjoy Hot Chocolate with Marsh Mellows. :D
My bad luck is that both my good-for-nothing sisters had not had any lunch on the day for some stupid reason. Hence, again I was not able to try the different varieties that I had originally wished to. We decided to start off with The Chocolate Fondue because Hot Molten Chocolate and varieties of Goodies to dip in is HEAVEN! I am not a huge fan of chocolate, but serve it hot and molten like that and I can lick my fingers off in fact I did almost burn my tongue. We were four in total, so we thought to start off with a Fondue for Two would not be a bad idea as, as per original plan we wanted to try other items off the menu as well. The Fondue comes in three types - Milk Chocolate, Dark Chocolate & White Chocolate. We went for Dark Chocolate as it was the favorite on the table. The Fondue was served Hot ( It has to be!) with accompaniments - strawberries, Bananas, brownies, Marsh mellows, caramel popcorn, even peanuts if you feel like a little garnish on top obviously Churros. My favorite of 'em all?? Bananas!!! Chocolate covered Bananas are bliss!! That coming from a girl who does not have much love for fruits! I think that is going to be my new obsession. Chocolate covered Bananas, I might whip it up at home. Or rather, make my sister do the making and I shall do the eating part. Having said that I am not a bad cook myself. Its just I would rather eat than cook. :P
To my utter disappointment, no I am not complaining about the service or quantity served, or any thing else. The disappointment was that my sister, the one time I said lets have desserts, she was hungry for food. Real Food i.e. something that is not sweet. Hence proved, what ever you do food is a must. So hopefully I will be re-visiting some time soon and give you more yummy details of the place.
Especially to the girls out there, because I know we love such places, head here on a night out with the girls and drink Hot Chocolate ( and many other items off the menu) while gossiping about everything under the sun.
WHAT WE HAD - Dark Chocolate Fondue for Two ( Bliss!! )
